The Little Black Dress is another piece from my Closet Staples Checklist. I honestly don’t wear an LBD all that often (I have a hard time wearing one black piece of clothing). Although I don’t wear them much, I do have a few LBD’s that really come through in a clutch!
Busy looks different to all of us. Busy might be chasing the kids out the door to get them to school so you can rush to work, balancing a full course load and a full time job, working your way up the professional ladder at your current job, or starting your own empire. Either way, busy is busy and sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to change outfits between your day and night obligations. This is where the little black dress comes to the rescue. When styling an LBD transition, I like to think about shoes and accessories first. They will be the easiest and most mobile starting point to change the vibe of an outfit and are easiest to store in your car (or ginormous tote).
If I know I’m going to be on the go all day I will pair a little black dress with sneakers for my daytime look (my go to’s are supergas). Then I’ll add a thin black choker and a denim jacket. Of course if I were in an office setting, my daytime LBD outfit would look different. For the office I would pair my little black dress with loafers, a delicate necklace, and a cardigan (and don’t forget the stockings!). The transition to a night look is so much easier than you would think. I like to think about all of my daytime accessories and just replace them with nighttime accessories. Strappy heels for Supergas, statement necklace for a choker, leather moto jacket for a denim jacket. Easy as pie!
